Teflon® Encapsulated O-Rings
Rubber, elastomeric O-Rings are susceptible to high friction and limited resistance to gas permeation and aggressive chemicals. What's more, solid PTFE O-Rings are rigid and have no effective memory and high compression set. CHEM-RING™ Teflon® Encapsulated O-Rings merge the sealing force and resilience of an elastomer with the chemical resistance of Teflon®. To accomplish this an elastomeric core of silicone or Viton™ is used with a thin encapsulation of Teflon® FEP or PFA fluoropolymer. The resultant product is an elastomeric PTFE seal with enhanced sealing capability.
High Performance Seal's Chem-RING Teflon® Encapsulated O-Rings are solvent resistant and chemically inert (except for attack by fluorine, alkaline metals and some halogenated compounds at high temperatures). Yet, they have an elastomeric memory near that of rubber O-Rings. The most commonly used FEP encapsulation also has an exceptionally low coefficient of friction (.1 to .2) and very low permeability to gases, which makes CHEM-RINGS a virtually universal seal for applications with hostile environments.
